Free Energy “Hold You Close” - Philadelphia, Pa - 6/23/2012
Last Saturday afternoon, we made our way over to Morgan’s Pier to pick up our friends in Free Energy, who were scheduled to play a free show later that evening. They had to sound check before we could leave the venue, so we hung out and tried one of 21st Amendment’s Hell or High Watermelon brews, which was quite tasty and refreshing on such a hot day. Then once everyone was all set, we got in the car and drove towards Fishtown.
With Free Energy, we decided to shoot at DiPinto for two reasons. One being the location was pretty rad, with lots of natural light coming in through their glass window storefront. The other reason being we wanted to utilize a music shop’s guitars, and knew that if they agreed it would be super cool to have the band playing on some new instruments they might not have otherwise had access to. Fortunately for us, and much like the band, the shop was open to whatever we had planned. They were more than happy to oblige the band, considering they stop in there and shop all the time, according to Brian the shop manager. This sort of open collaboration is the kind of creative ecosystem we like to foster and ultimately be apart of. The band played for us a new track called “Hold You Close,” which will be featured of a new album of theirs scheduled for release this coming fall. Enjoy.
